FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE SUPPORT AND PRESERVATION PROGRAM
(FASPP) |
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
We are in need of volunteers from all 5 regions of Wisconsin! Please take a minute to look over our FASPP qualifications and then either contact a board member or download an application here. Thank you for your interest!
PROGRAM GOALS:
- Support and guide foster/adoptive families undergoing an investigation
- Offer direction when dealing with “system” issues
- Offer a supportive ear to families in crisis
- Offer resource suggestions for child/family needs
- Offer support with grief process when a child leaves
PROGRAMS QUALIFICATIONS:
To become a FASPP volunteer, individuals must:
- Be a current Wisconsin foster home for at least 5 years (and at least half of that in Wisconsin) OR a special needs adoptive home
- Undergo a background check (paid for by WFAPA) as mandated by HFS 12
- Submit 3 References (non-relative)
- Go through the interview process by FASPP Board Members
- Attend all meetings, support and training sessions as mandated
- Have reasonable accessibility
- Demonstrate a willingness to engage in the concept of the program
- Have solid verbal and written communication skills
VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist foster/adoptive parents with information that will promote positive communication between the parents and human services agencies
- Offer foster/adoptive parents solutions to problems that may occur
- Offer foster/adoptive parents resources
- Encourage education and training
WHAT VOLUNTEERS CAN DO:
- Field calls from foster/adoptive parents
- Inform callers of the Investigation Process/ Laws or Guidelines in Place
- Guide callers to different resources available
- Encourage foster/adoptive parents to attend a support group/local association in their area
- Listen to callers’ complaints and worries
WHAT VOLUNTEERS MUST DO:
- Stay objective in all situations
- Keep all calls confidential unless the situation requires an investigation for abuse and/or neglect
- Log information about the call and any follow-ups on forms provided
- Send a monthly report on form provided to the SAAN chairperson
- State a disclaimer that FASPP is not able to provide legal advice or responsible for any actions taken by the caller
